Mother Leaves Hospital With Wrong Infant

WILLISTON, N.D.

A new mother at Williston’s Mercy Medical Center was released from the hospital with the wrong newborn. The hospital is investigating how the wrong baby was given to the discharged mother.

A staff member recognized the mix-up, and the babies were reunited with the correct mothers within an hour after hospital staff found the mistake, according to the Williston Herald. The facility would not provide details on the individuals involved or how the incident occurred.

The hospital is reviewing its policies and procedures for its obstetric unit.
