BALTIMORE — A 20-year-old man faces attempted first-degree murder and handgun charges for shooting a Morgan State University football player Friday near a residence hall on the campus.
Keith Robertson, who is not a student at the university, shot 19-year-old lineman Tyrell Okoro on the last day of classes before fall semester finals, reports the Baltimore Sun. Okoro sustained non-life-threatening injuries. It is unclear why the suspect, who confessed to police Saturday, was on campus or whether he knew his victim.
The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents at the university. In September, a shooting at the campus’ student center left one injured. In the past two weeks, three armed robberies have been reported in or around the university.
Since the incident, officials have bolstered patrols around the campus. The university has also hired additional police officers and security guards for the evening and set up an anonymous tip line. Authorities are currently looking at other ways to improve campus safety.
