BOZEMAN, Mont. — Gov. Steve Bullock vetoed a bill Monday that would have allowed college students in the Montana University System (MUS) to carry guns on campus.
House Bill 240 would have allowed students to keep firearms in their dormitories if their roommate’s approved. It also would have let students with concealed-carry permits to bring their weapons to campus, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports.
MUS representatives strongly opposed the bill, arguing that allowing stressed-out students to carry guns on campus could be deadly. However, supporters of the bill stated that without the proposal, students are vulnerable to violent crime.
