A University of Maryland police officer shot a man who witnesses say had been carrying a knife on campus.
The man, who is in the hospital with a non-life threatening injury to the leg, was confronted by police near campus around 1 p.m. on June 5. Earlier in the day police had received several 911 calls about a man walking around the university campus holding a knife, according to abcnews.com.
A Baltimore Police spokesperson said officers saw the man openly wielding a knife and reaching into his waistband when they shot him. The officers recovered a knife but did not reveal if they also found a gun on the suspect.
The shooting occurred on the south side of downtown Baltimore, and investigators are urging witnesses to come forward.
