MARIETTA, Ohio — Full-time Marietta College campus police started carrying Glock model 22, .40-caliber handguns while on duty Friday.
The college’s board of trustees approved the arming of officers at its May meeting, The Marietta Times reports. Part-time officers who meet the department’s qualification will begin carrying firearms on Aug. 1.
The college’s security department became a certified police department in 2003. Officers previously carried Tasers, since they were not allowed to carry firearms.
