Man Shoots Himself After Abducting Hospital Employee

A Wisconsin manhunt came to an end Monday when police located a man they say abducted a hospital employee.

A man shot himself Monday after a daylong manhunt that started after he abducted an employee from a Wisconsin hospital.

Multiple schools in a county in southeastern Wisconsin were closed Monday as police searched for a 20-year-old man they say abducted a female employee at Lakeview Specialty Hospital and Rehab around 3 p.m. Sunday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said authorities located the man outside of a Piggly Wiggly grocery store Sunday but he escaped after firing off several rounds in a crowded parking lot. The man released the hospital employee during the incident and no one was hurt.

Authorities then tracked the man down Monday at a home outside of Racine, where they found him hiding in bushes. The man then shot himself with the handgun he had and was taken to a Milwaukee hospital.
