INVERNESS, Fla. — A 71-year-old man was arrested after he threatened Citrus Memorial Health Systems employees with a firearm.

Wilfred Davis was being treated at the facility when he took a gun from his wife’s purse without her knowledge, The Tampa Tribune reports. When Davis became agitated and tried to leave, a nurse called several coworkers into the hospital room. Davis then threatened them with the gun.

Davis went into the hallway and began to threaten patients and staff. He was eventually cornered and tackled by Dakine Williams, a hospital employee. Deputy Samuel Ruby, who was in plain clothes, took control of the weapon.

Davis is currently on suicide watch at Citrus County Detention Facility. His wife, who has a concealed weapons permit, said she always carries a firearm in her purse.
