BRANDON, Manitoba, Canada – A patient struck by a man while was jumping to his death has sued Prairie Mountain Regional Health Authority for unspecified damages.
Rodney James McKnight filed the lawsuit on Monday, claiming the hospital should have known the atrium, where the other patient committed suicide, presented a danger, reports the Winnipeg Free Press. A year before the incident, a woman had fallen from the same location.
The suicide occurred in July, 2011, when a psychiatric patient jumped from a four-story balcony that overlooked the atrium. McKnight was sitting in a wheelchair on the ground floor and was injured when the other man fell on him.
