Man Barricades Family in Hospital Room, Assaults Security Guard

TROY, Mich. — A man, who wanted to take his newborn child home, was arrested Sept. 29 for allegedly hitting a security guard with a medical machine at William Beaumont Hospital.

The incident occurred around 8:05 a.m., after doctors told the man and his wife that the newborn needed to remain at the hospital for treatment for undisclosed medical issues. Although the mother agreed to keep the child at the hospital, the man wanted the child to be released, Detroit Free Press reports.

The man later barricaded the door while a nurse, his wife and infant, were in the room. To block a security guard from entering the room, the man struck the guard in the forehead with a medical machine used to treat the child. The guard suffered a cut on his forehead.

Police did not release the name of the suspect, who is expected to be charged with hindering and obstructing and assault and battery.
