PINE TOWNSHIP, Ill. — A man who threatened police with a sword and tried to grab a gun at Porter Hospital was charged with four felonies.
Christopher Battishill, who is described by his mother as bipolar, became erratic Saturday and police decided to take him for a mental health commitment, the Post-Tribune reports. Battishill confronted the officers with a sword and was subsequently attacked by a police dog. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for dog bites.
While in the hospital, Battishill, who was not handcuffed, attacked hospital security officers and police. After Tasers were used on Battishill, he resumed fighting and attempted to seize an officer’s gun from its holster.
Battishill is a suspect in a recent theft and hit-and-run crash.
