Lehigh University police will now conduct off-campus patrols in an effort to increase visibility and build relationships with students and residents.
The university’s police began patrolling a 15-block area surrounding the campus after students were involved in three armed robberies just outside the school’s south Bethlehem campus, reports The Morning Call.
About 30 percent of the school’s students live off campus. While the officers will patrol streets surrounding the campus, they will not have authority to make arrests or investigate crimes. The Bethlehem police will work with university police on off-campus issues.
