Kansas School District Implementing New Security Technology

Irving Elementary School in Wichita has doors that force you into the school office before giving you access to the rest of the building.

The Wichita School District in Kansas is planning on making all of its schools more secure, starting with the elementary schools.

With Gammon Elementary now adding new access control technology, about three quarters of the district’s elementary schools have every outside door locked during school hours. The District plans to have all 50 of its elementary schools use secure front doors by the end of the school year, reports kwch.com.

The doors will either be equipped with a camera and intercom system or force visitors to go through the office.Gammon Principle Larry Perlman believes schools must go “the extra mile” to keep students safe, adding that parents support these upgrades.

The school district plans to install similar access control technology in all of its middle schools by the end of the calendar year before moving on to its high schools.
