Houston Teacher ‘Regretful and Sorry’ for Videotaped Beating

HOUSTON—The science teacher, who made headlines last week for getting caught on camera beating one of her students, has issued an apology.

Sheri Davis said she was “regretful and sorry” for the April 29 incident, when she allegedly slapped and kicked 13-year-old Isaiah Reagins at Jamie’s House Charter School, according to Examiner.com. Jamie’s House is an alternative school for at-risk middle and high school students.

Reagins told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that he initially thought Davis was joking when she backed him into a corner during the alleged incident. Additionally, the victim said teachers were present during the episode; however, they did nothing to stop it.

Despite the apology, Davis’ lawyer, Chip Lewis, said the occurrence was a result of poor management at the school. Lewis said there is a lack of security and support for teachers, adding that students attack teachers and nothing is ever done about it.

A lawsuit has been filed against the two-time Teacher of the Year and the school. The lawsuit accuses Davis of assault and accuses the school of negligence, inadequate security and trying to cover up the incident. (Article continues below).

Additionally, Gabriel Hahn Moseley, a social studies teacher who was present during the beating, resigned Monday, reports Chron.com. School officials said Moseley was the only employee who witnessed the incident.

Prior to his employment with Jamie’s House, Moseley was released from his position with the Houston Independent School   District after being charged twice with having marijuana in his car on campus.

Moseley’s resignation comes at the end of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) investigation of Jamie’s House. Officials for TEA said they are concerned with the safety of the students at the school; however, the agency declined to say if it will take any action.
