CHICAGO – A University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center  (UIC) housekeeper was shot and killed Nov. 24 in the hospital parking garage. A co-worker, who is her ex-husband, is the suspected shooter.

Angela Bonds, 48, died of multiple gunshot wounds, reports the Chicago Tribune. Her ex-boyfriend, 46-year-old Earl Roberts, who is also a housekeeper for the institution, was arrested about half a mile from the scene of the shooting on Nov. 25. He had been pulled over for a traffic stop and fled on foot after the  UIC police officer recognized him. The officer and an FBI agent apprehended and detained the suspect. A weapon was also recovered.

Roberts also attempted to shoot Bonds’ fiance, 41-year-old Jimmy Locket and another friend, but they were able to escape, reports the Sun Times.

Immediately after the shooting, the medical center was placed on lockdown so SWAT personnel could search the area. The lockdown was lifted at 5 p.m. after no suspect was found.
