Former Student Arrested in School Shooting Plot
Four of his friends have also been arrested for threatening whistleblowers.
PORT ORCHARD, Wash. – A former Kingston High School student was arrested for threatening to “shoot up” his alma mater.
Local police were notified of the threats by Kingston High School security officers who had been contacted by witnesses who said Matthew Smiley, 18, made the remarks on more than one occasion, reports Q13Fox. Guns were found hidden in his vehicle.
Bail for Smiley was set at $2 million on Monday.
The day after that, on Tuesday, three Kingston High students and a 19-year-old registered sex offender were arrested for using social media to threaten the individuals who exposed the alleged plot, reports KiroTV. The suspects are Smiley’s friends. The students who were arrested were two 17-year-old boys and a 16-year-old girl.
Student witnesses notified school administrators of the threats allegedly made by Smiley’s friends. Campus officials then called law enforcement officials.
