A judge sentenced former Florida A&M University marching band member Dante Martin to 77 months in prison on Jan. 9 for his part in the death of drum major Robert Champion.
The hazing that killed Champion took place on a band bus on Nov. 19, 2011. Nine others have been sentenced for their parts in the hazing, but nearly all were given probation and community service, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Martin’s lawyers said the man was no more culpable than other participants, but he was unofficially known as the organizer of hazings during the marching band’s junkets.
