GRANVILLE, Ohio — A former Denison University student, who was expelled after a female student accused him of sexual assault, has filed a lawsuit against the university and his accuser.
In a report filed on Sept. 2 with the university, the alleged victim said Zackary Hunt, 18, assaulted her on Aug. 30 when he walked her home from a party. The Licking County Prosecutor’s Office did not charge Hunt because the victim did not want a police investigation, the Newark Advocate reports.
The lawsuit claims Hunt’s rights were violated during the disciplinary proceedings and alleges 10 counts, including claims of negligence by Denison employees. It also claims that the university violated Hunt’s right to an attorney and that Hunt was not allowed to present evidence or testimony on his behalf.
Hunt seeks damages from his accuser for libel, defamation and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. He is also seeking to be reinstated by the university, as well as compensatory damages and punitive damages.
