Ex U. of Ala. Professor Receives Life Sentence for Faculty Shooting

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A former University of Alabama at Huntsville biology professor who killed three people at the university on Feb, 12, 2010 was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Monday, reports the Associated Press.

Amy Bishop pleaded guilty to murder earlier this month so she would not receive the death penalty. The shooting occurred when she stood up during a faculty meeting in 2010 and fired a 9 mm pistol, killing biology Professors Maria Ragland Davis and Adriel Johnson, and Biology Department Chair Gopi Podila. She also wounded two others.
