Dept. of Ed Fines Va. Tech for Emergency Notification Violation

RICHMOND, Va. — On Friday, the U.S. Department of Education fined Virginia Tech $5,000 for not issuing a timely warning during the April 2007 mass shooting that killed 33 people.

The fine is based on what federal officials claim to be the school’s inconsistent timely warning policies back in 2007, reports the Associated Press.

In December 2012, Virginia Tech was fined $27,500, which was reduced by a judge to $5,000. The school is considering appealing both the December 2012 and Friday’s fines.
