CUNY Proposes Ban on Student-Professor Relationships

NEW YORK — City University of New York (CUNY) has proposed a new policy that forbids professors from engaging in intimate relationships with “students for whom they have professional responsibility.” The current policy only “strongly discourages” such relationships.

The policy also requires staff to disclose relationships with employees they supervise, the New York Post reports. A university spokesperson said it was too early to describe possible penalties for failing to adhere to such a policy.

Critics said the policy would be difficult to enforce.
