The messages “Rape Happens Here” and “Columbia Has A Rape Problem” were projected in massive letters on the Columbia University library on April 12.

Starting around 8 p.m. the student group No Red Tape displayed the messages as prospective students roamed the campus.

Campus security officers asked students to stop projecting the messages and Graduate Hall Director Rainikka Corprew physically blocked the projector, according to gothamist.com.

A member of No Red Tape said the demonstration was intended to send a message to prospective students and said the group will also hold a teach in to educate people about the way the university handles rape cases.

Columbia University has dealt with various sexual assault controversies in recent years, most notably the case of Emma Sulkowicz, who dragged a mattress around campus to protest the continued enrollment of a student she said raped her in 2012. The school is also being investigated by the Office for Civil Rights over its handling of sexual assault and harassment.
