College Presidents Deny Sexual Assault Is Prevalent at Their Schools

A survey of 647 college presidents show only six percent of them think sexual assault is common on their campus.

The Inside Higher Ed survey, conducted by Gallop, got responses from 647 college or university presidents.

A survey of college presidents revealed that less than one in sixteen of them feel sexual assault is prevalent on their campus.

Inside Higher Ed, a higher education news source, surveyed 647 college presidents about a range of topics. The survey shows that although about a third of presidents think sexual assault is prevalent at U.S. colleges, only six percent of them think sexual assault is a problem at their own institution.

The survey also shows that more than three quarters of presidents agree that their campus is doing well protecting women from sexual assaults on campus, and about half of presidents agree that local law enforcement should be responsible for handling all sexual assault cases.

The Department of Education is currently investigating 101 colleges due to concerns that those institutions have violated Title IX while handling sexual violence cases, according to The Huffington Post.
