As K-12 schools, universities and hospitals continue to make campus security investments, we can’t forget about the importance of maintenance. With added pressure to purchase the “latest and greatest,” campus security professionals must also continue to focus on security measures they already have in place.
While safety and security is a priority for most campuses, some are unknowingly putting others in danger through easily preventable mistakes. Something that might seem insignificant, such as unkempt bushes or placing dumpsters against a building, is actually extremely hazardous.
Going back many years, the back of each print issue of Campus Safety magazine features an image from a K-12, university or hospital campus and asks the reader to identify what is right or wrong with the picture.
A majority of the images have been provided to us by Safe Havens International, a non-profit center that helps schools and school systems improve crisis preparedness and campus safety.
Loyal Campus Safety magazine readers have reached out looking for a way to share the photos with their staff as a learning tool. Thanks to their initiatives in looking for creative and effective ways to teach safety and security lessons, we decided to post them on campussafetymagazine.com as well.
Take a look at the photos in this slideshow to see if you can tell what’s wrong in them. Afterward, consider taking a look around your campus to see if any of these infractions appear.
We’ve also included a few images of campuses that got security right since so many of you deserve recognition for your efforts in keeping your students, patients and staff safe.
