JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Jersey City staff and parents were unaware that unknown armed private security guards were given permission to visit campuses the week of Sept.9.
The staff learned after the visit that the security guards were from Strike Force Services, a security company, hired by the school district to check security shortcomings in school buildings, according to the Hudson Reporter.
The Strike Force personnel were seen walking on school grounds unescorted by school staff while armed. In a letter to Superintendent of Schools Marcia Lyles, who gave consent for the visit, AFSCME Council 52 Executive Director Rick Gollin said that the “individuals were acting suspiciously, entering and looking around in areas on school property where unauthorized individuals have no business.”
Several parents told the Reporter they were concerned that students and staff could have been endangered if school security had intervened to disarm the Strike Force employees.
