A high school student in Arkansas was shot in the back by a classmate in the school’s parking lot Jan. 13.

The incident, which occurred just after school was let out in Camden’s Harmony Grove School District, is being reported by arkansasmatters.com as an accidental shooting.

Three male teens were reportedly talking by one of the student’s cars when one of them found a pistol. The student, an unidentified 17-year-old, began playing with the gun and inadvertently shot it into the car.

The 18-year-old student could be charged with having a gun on school grounds while the 17-year old was in juvenile court on Wednesday.

The Ouachita County Sheriff’s Office and members of the school district administration are investigating the incident.

District Superintendent Walt Pigott announced in a statement that “the gun was unintentionally brought on school grounds and nothing in the investigation indicates there was any intent of harm.”
