In response to Saturday’s shooting at St. Vincent’s Hospital, the facility is increasing security.
An armed security officer will patrol the hospital, and the campus will hire more guards, reports AL.com. Additionally, St. Vincent’s Hospital officials are reviewing the video surveillance and access control technology currently deployed to determine if they should make improvements.
The incident that prompted the security upgrades involved Jason Letts, 38, who shot a police officer and two employees as they were exiting an elevator. Another police officer came around the corner and fatally shot the suspect.
The injuries to the first police officer and hospital staff members were not life-threatening, and the injured police officer has been discharged from UAB Hospital. The two hospital employees are in stable condition.
