CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Harvard University has renewed relations with the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), following thawing of Vietnam-era tensions that lasted four decades.
In a Tuesday ceremony, university dedicated new office space on campus for the group and granted access to campus athletic facilities and libraries, reports Boston.com. The university will fund some supplemental activities that cadets can participate in at other schools.
During the Vietnam War, the university revoked privileges for ROTC personnel due to tensions on campus. Later, gay and lesbian advocates considered “don’t ask, don’t tell” discriminatory.
The ceremony coincided with the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” on Tuesday.
