4 U. of Florida Officers Reinstated After Shooting

Published: August 1, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—University of Florida (UF) officials reinstated four of the five police officers involved in the March shooting of a doctoral student.

The officers had been on desk duty since the March 2 incident involving 35-year-old Kofi Adu-Brempong, according to The Miami Herald. Adu-Brempong was shot in the face when he tried to strike one of the officers with a weapon.

It is unclear what action will be taken with the fifth officer, who is still undergoing an internal investigation.

Adu-Brempong has been charged with aggravated assault on an officer and resisting arrest with violence. The charges could be dismissed if he doesn’t violate any laws, attends counseling and takes required medication.
