Three young men cleared of sexually assaulting a William Paterson University student have announced their intention to sue the school, its president and campus police for allegedly botching the investigation related to the charges.
Noah Williams, Garrett Collick and Jahmel Latimer were among five student charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault in an alleged Nov. 25 incident. The students, who have been barred from campus since their arrest, claim they were denied due process, NorthJersey.com reports.
A notice filed Feb. 6 by the students’ attorneys claims university officials failed to conduct a proper investigation, lacked the training to do so, and engaged in improper searches and seizures, among other complaints. Last month, a grand jury declined to indict the young men on the sexual assault charges.
