2 Students Shot at Calif. High School

Update: A suspect has been arrested in the shooting of two students at Gardena High School. The alleged gunman, who is also a student, was reportedly carrying a gun in his backpack.

The suspect allegedly threw his backpack on his desk, accidentally setting off the gun inside. The bullet hit one student the head and another student was hit in the neck, the Los Angeles Times reported.

One of the students is female, the other male; they are 15 and 16 years old.

GARDENA, Calif. — Three people were shot at Gardena High School on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m. At least one of the victims is a student.

The gunman fled from the scene and is still at large, the Los Angeles Times reports. The condition of the victims is unknown and the school was placed on lockdown.

Officials do not yet know the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Lt. Steve Prendergast told the news source than an investigation is underway.
