2020 Fall/Winter Campus Safety Online Summit Focuses on COVID Response, Threat Assessments, Civil Unrest and More

Whether schools or institutions of higher education held online classes, in-person classes or a combination of both in response to the coronavirus, campus protection professionals have had their hands full over the last six months since CS held its Campus Safety Online Summit (CSOS) last summer.

Security, public safety, emergency management and technology practitioners have had to quickly adjust to the ever-changing issues posed by COVID-19, such as how to effectively contact trace those who are exposed to infected individuals, how to properly quarantine students who test positive and how to transition to distance learning when spikes in infections occurred. Threat assessments of students who are taking online classes and mental health issues have posed other challenges. Additionally, campus protection professionals faced and continue to face the protests and calls to reform the police in response to the in-custody death of George Floyd this summer. And let’s not forget the new Title IX rules that went into effect this August… in the middle of a pandemic, no less.

These and many other topics were covered in last week’s 2020 Fall/Winter CSOS sessions, and attendees’ response was overwhelmingly positive.

“Outstanding , you guys rock. I cannot say enough about yesterday. Just overwhelmed with information,” said one CSOS attendee.

Many of the attendees also appreciated the format of the summit.

“One of the nicest advantages was I did not have to sit all day in front of my computer as I could come back to the sessions and watch the recording at another time,” said another attendee. “I think this is very important as we are all busy and this was very convenient.”

Marisa Randazzo, PhD, who is Chief Executive Officer of SIGMA Threat Management Associates, kicked off the CSOS with her opening keynote, titled “Working Threat Assessment Cases in a Virtual Environment.” She received rave reviews.

“This was a very timely topic considering we are living through a pandemic,” said an attendee. “Conducting Behavior Threats in a virtual environment, is critical to overall student safety and mental fitness. Thank you Campus Safety for this awesome and informative speaker.”

“This was AWESOME!!! I Am Pumped up right now,” said one attendee.

Another said, “I will definitely use this information to reevaluate where I am in my life and strive to have significance in others. This was one of the best motivational webinars I have attended.”

So far, there were more than 2,250 CSOS registrants and more than 7,560 session views. (If you missed the CSOS, you can still watch all 18 sessions on-demand.)

In addition to the educational programs, attendees viewed CSOS sponsor profile pages where they learned about the latest security, public safety and emergency management technologies available on the market. Attendees also entered to win valuable raffle prizes. Campus Safety thanks the following sponsors:
