2 Police Pursuits Spill onto School, University Campuses

STOCKTON and FULLERTON, Calif. – Stockton Police Department officers got into a shootout at August Knodt Elementary School with four suspects on Wednesday evening. One suspect was injured.

The incident began when the Stockton Police Department’s Community Response Team and the multiagency San Joaquin County gang task force attempted to make a traffic stop near the school, reports Recordnet.com. Four occupants of the vehicle that was stopped fled the scene on foot.

Police pursued the men onto the school campus. One of the suspects is believed to have shot at officers with an assault rifle. The officers shot back and injured the man. All four suspects were eventually apprehended.

On the same evening, the campus of California State University Fullerton (CSU Fullerton) was locked down after police pursued an armed robbery suspect onto school grounds, reports the Associated Press.

Students were notified via SMS text messaging and sheltered in place for several hours while police searched the area.

There were in total five suspects involved in the pursuit. Three were apprehended off-campus. The one who came onto CSU Fullerton’s campus and another suspect remain at large.
