BOULDER, Colo. — Two cars containing eight University of Colorado football players were pulled over Saturday after witnesses mistook the Airsoft pellet guns the players were pointing at each other for real weapons. Two wide receivers involved in the incident have been suspended from the team’s first two games of the season.
No arrests were made nor tickers issued, but police planned to raise concerns with the athletic department about the “impact [the players’] behavior had on police services throughout the entire city at the time of the incident,” according to the police report. Police said several of the men became antagonistic with officers when they were ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint, the Daily Camera reports.
Jeffrey Thomas and DaVaughn Thornton were suspended from two games and Jermane Clark is leaving the program due to a combination of family issues and his involvement in the incident. University officials said the rest of the players were just getting a ride home.
