1 Injured in Ohio VA Shooting

A retired employee of the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center has been arrested for shooting another employee.

DAYTON, Ohio – A retired employee of the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center has been arrested for shooting another employee in a break room on Monday.

Police say the suspect is Neil Moore, 59, a former housekeeping employee at the VA. The victim is Paul Burnside, 61, who was shot in the ankle. His injuries are not life-threatening, reports Fox 19.

Police received reports of the shooting yesterday around 12:15 p.m., prompting a lockdown and room-by-room search of the facility, reports the Springfield News-Sun. The suspect left the scene and went to another hospital nearby, asking for psychiatric help. It was there that Moore was apprehended by police.

The motive for the shooting is currently being investigated, although the shooter and the victim might have known each other.

A VA spokesman also indicates medical center officials will be reviewing security procedures to determine if they should make any changes.
