The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, a national student advocacy and school violence prevention nonprofit formed in the wake of the tragic May 2022 Uvalde, Texas mass shooting, announced this week the highly anticipated relaunch of its national school threat database and comprehensive threat resource center for Volusia County, Flordia schools. Operations are officially set to resume as of the date of this release, August 7, 2025.

In a release update, Thursday morning, the foundation, which had previously recognized Volusia County Sheriff for his proactive, aggressive actions to curb rising school threats in the county last school year, noted that it hopes to combine the technology and volunteer staffing of the now active database with a current launch by Volusia County law enforcement and school officials of a new Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit aimed at identifying and intervening in potential school threats before they escalate.

The unit itself monitors social media platforms like Snapchat and Facebook, which authorities say are frequently used to communicate threats. The initiative comes as students return to school amid rising concerns over campus safety.

Foundation officials emphasize that the available database will aide the county with its innovative database and resource center and serves as a unique, live, and interactive platform crucial for combating the alarming increase in violent school threats across the county and nationally.

In January 2025, the newly launched 24-hour monitoring program demonstrated its efficacy by intercepting a potential school threat at Garfield Middle School in Massachusetts: https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2025/01/13/shooting-threat-revere-schools-unfounded-police-say/

The cutting-edge technology powering the threat monitoring and intervention service was developed by the nonprofit as part of its ongoing mission to prevent violence before it reaches school communities. This advanced system integrates AI technology with dedicated, live foundation team members who meticulously monitor, track, and report local, state, and national school threats in real-time.

Beyond real-time monitoring, the database provides users with detailed geographic, county, and state-specific school threat data, up-to-the-minute information on reported school threat activity, active lockdowns, and more. An anonymous school threat reporting option is also available, empowering individuals to confidentially report potential threats.

Furthermore, the Foundation’s crisis response team members are available to respond immediately, upon request, to connect individuals, organizations, and school community members with accurate, up-to-date information and vital support resources. These resources include peer and professional counseling, accessible 24 hours a day to address school threat crises. Services are available online, via email request, or by calling 254-499-8027.

Daniel Chapin, Founder and developer of this unprecedented program, stated in Monday’s release, “This tool is unlike any other in the fight against the alarming rise in school threats nationwide. It provides both real-time data access related to school threats and LIVE, interactive support resources. This program builds upon the powerful methodologies established by resources like the National School Shooting Database, elevating them to the next level to proactively address, intervene, and educate on the current school threat crisis nationwide.”
