3 High School Basketball Players Face Rape Charges Over Hazing Incident

The incident occurred last week during the Smoky Mountain Classic basketball tournament in the basement of a cabin.

Three Ooltewah, Tenn., high school basketball players have been charged with aggravated rape and assault of a freshman teammate.

The suspects and victim attend Ooltewah High School, and the suspects were charged on Monday. The hazing incident occurred last week during the Smoky Mountain Classic basketball tournament in the basement of a cabin.

Gatlinburg police were called to a local hospital on Dec. 23 when the victim was brought there by his basketball coach, reports CBS News. The victim was then sent to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville for surgery on his colon and bladder.

The Times Free Press is reporting that the victim was seriously injured when a pool cue was forced inside his rectum, which punctured his colon. The tip of the cue broke off in his bladder.

Three chaperones were on the trip, including the head coach, his wife and the assistant coach, however, the chaperones were not in the cabin basement when the incident occurred.

Because all three suspects are under the age of 18, they have not been identified. They have been dismissed from the team.
