Purdue Expels 3 Football Players for Sexual Assault
None of the former Purdue University football players face criminal charges.
A spokesperson for the Purdue University football team did not confirm the expulsions.
Purdue University has reportedly expelled three of the football players implicated in two students’ sexual assault accusations.
A law firm representing one of the alleged victims said the students were expelled “to ensure that these players will not victimize another student, for which we are grateful.”
Four members of the Purdue football team were accused of sexual assaulting two students at an off-campus house on Oct. 13. Those players face no charges, reports The Indianapolis Star.
A criminal conviction requires evidence “beyond a reasonable doubt” while most schools use the “preponderance of evidence” standard to find accused students responsible.

The university’s Administrative Board opened a Title IX investigation into the claims, although a spokesperson for the school’s football team said he could not confirm disciplinary decisions regarding students under federal law.
An alleged victim said she retained legal counsel from the Massillamamy & Jeter law firm in hopes of getting the accused students expelled.
“I think the families and the victims feel vindicated that the school took the proper steps,” a statement released by the law firm stated. “We felt law enforcement really did not and kind of tried to bury the story.”
The students involved have not been identified.
