Police Break Up Wild Parties at Colorado State U, Western Michigan U
Authorities had to break up parties that grew into large riots at Colorado State University and Western Michigan University over the weekend.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. and KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Authorities had to break up parties that grew into large riots at Colorado State University and Western Michigan University over the weekend.
As many as 25 police units, SWAT teams and a K-9 units broke up a block party near CSU that grew into a 200-person riot on April 12, The Collegian reported.
When police arrived on the scene, party-goers threw beer bottles and yelled profanities at officers. Some individuals also climbed on top of random students’ vehicles that passed by.
No tear gas was used in the confrontation. No arrests were immediately made, but an impending investigation of the incident may lead to criminal charges.
Meanwhile, police used tear gas to disperse a 2,000-person crowd at WMU on April 12, after a gathering known as “House Crawl” grew into a rowdy party where fights began breaking out, MLive.com reported.
Authorities began receiving calls around 2 p.m., about a civil disturbance near the campus concerning excessive noise, open consumption of alcohol and large groups of people gathering. When fights broke out, officers, who were monitoring the event as it grew in size, stepped in to stop the chaos.
Police arrested on person who was throwing bottles at an officer. No injuries were reported during the incident.
