Carthage ISD to Arm Staff at All Schools

Under the Guardian Plan, a select group of school personnel will carry concealed handguns on campuses throughout the district.

CARTHAGE, Texas – All schools in the Carthage Independent School District will have armed staff members.

Under the new policy, called the Guardian Plan, a select group of school personnel will carry concealed handguns on campus, ArkLATexHomepage.com reports.

Each individual must undergo intensive training and psychological exams.

District officials said it takes about three to five minutes for police to respond to an incident. With the new policy, the “guardians” can respond immediately.

The Gary Independent School District will implement a similar program this year.
