Calif. Elementary School Installs 30 New Security Cameras
The campus’ old video surveillance system’s images weren’t clear enough for administrators to identify suspects.
Columbia Elementary has installed $71,000 worth of HD security cameras throughout the campus. In total, 30 cameras were installed by AMS.NET and can be accessed remotely.
The goals of the system, according to Columbia Union School District Superintendent Craig Bowden, are to improve security, monitor visitors after hours and on the weekends, and identify thieves and vandals.
Additionally, it’s hoped that the new video surveillance equipment will improve security in the town of Columbia, Calif., as well as strengthen the school’s partnerships with local law enforcement. Now it may be possible for the video to be streamed to police vehicles so officers can view what is happening on campus, reports the Union Democrat.
The school had an old video surveillance system that was installed about 10 years ago, but the resolution of the video wasn’t good enough for administrators to identify suspects. In recent years, Columbia Elementary had experienced gas thefts and other incidents.
