On September 28, 2016, Hudgens and then-school resource officer Gilmore were at Sycamore Middle School in Pleasant View, Tennesee, when a student came to school with a loaded gun and ammo.

Hudgens was able to convince the student to hand over the gun and Gilmore arrested him.
