ASSA ABLOY Partners Up to Add New Offerings to Life-Safety Door Line

The new offerings include an expanded fire-resistant product line and tornado-resistant glazed windows, among other things.

ASSA ABLOY, a manufacturer of door security solutions, recently launched a series of life-safety enhancements through its Ceco Door and Curries brands, and integrated with various hardware solutions from Sargent and Corbin Russwin.

Cutting-edge technologies and rigorous testing have driven advancements across ASSA ABLOY’s line of attack, tornado and fire-resistant door opening solutions, according to the company.

“At ASSA ABLOY, we’re constantly seeking innovative solutions to ensure the most secure and safe spaces possible,” says Stacey Callahan, ASSA ABLOY Door Group’s vice president of marketing and innovation. “That’s why we’ve focused on delivering and enhancing life-safety solutions across our attack, tornado and fire-resistant offerings that address complex challenges in unique environments. With these innovative enhancements, our comprehensive product portfolio continues to expand as we create new solutions to meet every challenge we face.”

Below are the offerings available through ASSA ABLOY Group, as described by the company.

Attack Resistant Glazed Window Retrofit Kit

By partnering with School Guard Glass, ASSA ABLOY now offers a retrofit kit for standard and custom-sized glazing that delivers on cost and performance to enhance security and to delay access from intrusion. This retrofit kit enables financially constrained school districts and other facilities an affordable option to harden existing doors with attack resistant windows without replacing the complete opening.

The attack-resistant glazed window complies with the 5-aa10 test standards and are available for both existing metal and wood doors. The retrofit kits are third-party tested to withstand brutal physical attack from an intruder for over four minutes and 30 shots in a 6”x6” area. While bullets may penetrate the glass, it will remain in place to prevent access from an intruder, keeping occupants safe until first responders arrive.

Expanded E119 Fire Resistant Product Line

In a partnership with Vetrotech, ASSA ABLOY has extended its line of offerings to the E119 Fire Resistive products. New to the product line are the versatile full glass narrow stile door and the interior curtain wall which join the E119 family among the highest fire-resistive specialty door and framing system in the industry.

The E119 line of doors and framing solutions meet the high standard for fire-resistive criteria set by the International Building Code. Unlike fire protective units that emit radiant heat and only block flames for 45 minutes, the E119 fire resistive products block the passage of flames, excessive radiant heat and hot gasses through the door and framing system’s transoms, sidelights, window frames and window wall assemblies for up to 180 minutes.

In supplementing and diversifying the E119 line of offerings, ASSA ABLOY has engineered new configurations to include level 3 bullet resistance and sound rated glass options across the entire fire resistant line.

StormPro Tornado Resistant Door with Glazed Window

ASSA ABLOY’s enhancement to StormPro assemblies now includes a tornado-resistant glazed window, adding an additional safety option. The glazed window in the StormPro assembly gives occupants the peace of mind of knowing they can see when it’s safe to leave a sheltered area without unknowingly exposing themselves to hazardous circumstances.

The glazed StormPro opening meets the same, high life-safety standards of the entire StormPro family, achieving the latest code requirements for storm shelters, safe rooms and new construction for K-12 schools. The glazed StormPro tornado resistant opening withstood third-party ICC 500-2014 testing and certification process and is prepared to withstand extreme wind speeds of 250 miles an hour during a tornado — providing security and safety during the most severe storms.
