Aeroturn LLC, a turnstile manufacturer, announced the University of Pittsburgh has selected the company’s turnstiles for its Trees Athletic Center.
University officials set out to find a turnstile manufacturer back in 2017, ultimately landing on Aeroturn. In 2018, the turnstiles were deployed on time and within the budget requirements.
Aeroturn deployed three ADA-compliant X-Wing turnstile lanes on a modular platform system in the athletic center where a large influx of students enter the building for exercise and recreational activity. The university chose this specific site as a testing ground for the product due to the “abusive nature of the students who would be using this entrance,” according to the press release.
Features of the X-Wing turnstile include:
- Fixed-hinged pivot barrier style
- 36″ passageway with a double opposed panel unit
- 39-72″ tall panels in frameless 10mm safety glass
- Barrier safety clutch mechanism at the moving panels
- Emergency release that is activated with supplied Aerokey; safely opens passageway when activated and auto-secures when deactivated
- Modular mechanics with a single mechanism or dual mechanism in a single cabinet
- Site-adjustable barrier speed
- Plug-n-play hookup for same-day, turnkey installation
Aeroturn also integrated the Pennsylvania university’s existing blackboard readers as well as an extra proximity reader at one lane for additional personnel.
