LOS ANGELES – Leah Wilcken was charged with four misdemeanor criminal counts after her 17-year-old son brought a loaded .45 caliber semiautomatic handgun to Will Rogers High School in Van Nuys back in May.
Wilcken was charged with allowing a child to carry a firearm off-premise, allowing a child to take a firearm to school, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and permitting a child to be placed in a situation where their person or health is endangered, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Wilcken’s son is also being charged in the incident. His identity has not been released because he is a minor.
If Wilcken is found guilty, she could face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine per count.
Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer says the arrest of Wilcken is the first step toward making parents more accountable for not supervising guns at home. He pledged to continue to take aggressive action in this matter.
