Technology Thwarts Attempted Baby Abduction

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. — A woman disguised in scrubs attempted to hide a newborn girl in a tote bag and take her from the Garden Grove Medical Center Monday.

Sensors attached to the baby alerted employees that Grisel Ramirez, 48, was trying to leave with the baby, the Associated Press reports. Ramirez is accused of posing as a nurse and telling the mother of the baby to take a shower before the doctor came to examine her. When the mother left the room, Ramirez allegedly put the baby in the bag and tried to carry her out of the ward.

Investigators later concluded that Ramirez was the woman who walked into a hospital in Anaheim last week and asked several questions of a pregnant woman, according to , Lt. Jeff Nightengale.
