Woman Pleads Guilty to Abducting Infant 24 Years Ago

NEW YORK — A woman who kidnapped an infant from Harlem Hospital 24 years ago and raised the child as her own has pleaded guilty to a federal kidnapping charge.

Ann Pettway faces at least 10 years in prison for posing as a nurse and taking then 19-day-old Carlina White from her parents, ABC News reports. If she had chosen to stand trial, she could have been sentenced to a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison.

Pettway changed White’s name to Nejdra Nance. White discovered she was not Pettway’s daughter after her lack of a birth certificate or Social Security card led her to question her identity in her late teens.
