AMERICUS, Ga.—A woman wanted on drug charges shot herself in the head after firing multiple gunshots at police in the Phoebe Sumter Hospital parking lot.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on Aug. 23. The woman, who has yet to be identified, shot at vehicles and the hospital’s emergency room doors from an SUV, reports WALB.com. Prior to the event, investigators had stopped the woman for her involvement in a drug deal at a nearby grocery store parking lot.
The woman surrendered after she was boxed in by a police vehicle. When she got out of the SUV, here head was bleeding; however, she complied with demands. After she was in police custody, hospital staff checked out the suspect’s wound.
No one was injured in the shooting except for the suspect. Authorities are not sure how many rounds of ammunition were fired during the incident.
