Multiple people have been fired and the Western Kentucky University swim team has been suspended after a Title IX investigation.
Former swim team member Collin Craig filed two complaints, one with the police department and one with the university, alleging he was hazed and abused in his semester on the team.
As a result of the school complaint and ensuing investigation, head coach Bruce Marchionda, associate head Coach Brian Thomas and head diving coach Chelsea Ale will be fired June 30 and the program will be suspended for five years, according to m.bgdailynews.com.
As a result of the police complaint, police executed a search warrant on a house Craig referred to as the party house and seized electronic devices, beer kegs, street signs, drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana stems. Some photos that were confiscated show people who appear to be highly intoxicated.
Craig, who was 18 during the time of his alleged victimization, estimates he had to attend 27 parties his freshman year, was forced to drink alcohol and was emotionally abused frequently, leading him to depression and disillusionment.
Craig was attending Western Kentucky on a partial scholarship and did not return after winter break. His attorney said he does not plan to file a lawsuit against the school.
