A school district in Washington has banned the popular kid’s game tag from its playgrounds to improve student safety.

Parents of students in the Mercer Island School District are upset over what they say was a one-sided, pointless and possibly harmful decision, according to q13fox.com.

The district says the decision was made “to ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students.”

Parents, however, have expressed concerns about the district restricting their children’s unstructured time at school. On a Facebook page created to talk about the ban parents said they were upset they weren’t consulted before the decision was made. Others said that with so much focus on preventing childhood obesity schools should be encouraging students to stay physically active.
