VIRGINIA — Legislators have proposed a bill that would allow school districts to mount cameras on buses to record drivers who illegally pass the bus. The bill would also allow those violators to be fined $250.
It is already illegal to pass a bus that has stopped and engaged its warning lights in Virginia. Drivers who do so are guilty of reckless driving, PilotOnline.com reports. Thirteen children in eight states were killed in bus loading zones in 2009, but none of those incidents occurred in Virginia.
Arkansas, North Carolina and Rhode Island have already passed similar bills allowing districts to install bus cameras.
